Proficiency tests

Appropriate quality assurance systems for laboratory activities are an important element of good laboratory practice. Quality assurance systems may include participation in proficiency testing (PT) schemes.

Cefas organises PT for microbiological determinands relevant to shellfish and water, and are available to both public and private sector laboratories. Current PT schemes cover the following:

• Norovirus.
• Hepatitis A.
• E. coli.
• Salmonella spp.
• FRNA bacteriophage.
• Vibrio spp.

Laboratory results and performance details are confidential. Anonymised reports of laboratory performance are distributed by the organisers following each distribution. Cefas provide assistance and advice if required.

RT 34 Vibrio Parahaemolyticus ring trial 2010

Enumeration of total and pathogenic Vibrio Parahaemolyticus.

The ring trial material for this distribution will be provided on a cost recovery basis, the charge for this distribution will be £355 + VAT. Samples will be transported by courier to those laboratories registering an interest during the week commencing 22nd March 2009.

Please note that all payments must be received by the 19th March 2010. If payment has not been received by this date, the material will not be dispatched. Payment can be made by Credit/Debit Card or by Bank Transfer (BACS).
