The Cefas Water Sampler was originally developed for use with a Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) where small size is paramount for successful deployment. This key constraint has resulted in a product that is ideal for many other applications that require its compact size.
The Cefas Water Sampler is a product that can capture up to 16 individual water samples into sample bags, which can be pre-filled with preservative should it be necessary. The standard size sample bag is 250ml; however larger bags can be fitted. The sampler pumps 100ml in approximately 90 seconds. Sampling can be set-up via a Windows software interface, allowing the user to programme for the water samples to be taken at specific times. A purge function allows the user to clear the pipe work of water from the previous sample, thus reducing the chance of cross contamination.
Each bag fill can be performed either as a one shot operation, or as a repeat fill. The repeat fill feature allows a sample bag to be filled gradually over a period of time, with the amount of fill for each stage being preset through the user interface.
A water switch detects when the water sampler enters the water. The programming can use this information to move the sample start times in the event that a deployment is delayed; without the need to re-programme the unit.
As a safety feature, a pressure relief valve is fitted as standard, to prevent overpressure which could result from accidental kinking of the external flexible silicone tubing.
