Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) testing services
KHV – the problem
Koi herpesvirus (KHV) is a deadly and extremely contagious viral disease that is spreading rapidly around the world. The disease typical kills four out every five infected fish resulting in severe economic losses.
There is currently no cure for this disease but early detection can enable prevention of further spread of the disease to unaffected stocks.
Detection
KHV can be difficult to diagnose, visual examination is unreliable as the typical signs are seen in a number of other carp diseases.
Some fish will carry the virus for long periods without exhibiting any external signs of disease.
New! KHV ELISA test
Our ELISA test offers a major breakthrough in KHV testing:
- The first non-destructive test available
- Valuable fish are not killed
- Suitable for testing both large and small populations of carp
The advantages of the ELISA test give it a much wider market-appeal than previous tests. Populations of koi and fishery carp can be assessed without having to sacrifice valuable stocks.
We offer the ELISA test alongside our other two tests.
Our range of tests
We supply 3 tests. Each test is suitable for different circumstances. Careful consideration may be required to decide which one is best for your fish.
There are restrictions on which tests are available depending on the size of the fish population to be tested.
